Thank you for your interest in the 2017 Conference: Enacting Change!
Date: Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 Location: 140 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston College
In previous years, the Latin American Business Club has focus its annual leadership conference on current events that have meaningful impact in the region. Our three “Latin American Leadership Conferences” have focused on different social, political, and economic perspectives regarding sustainable growth in Latin America. However, this year, given the current events that have surfaced since the ending of last year, and the future events that will shape 2017, the executive board has decided to rebrand the conference to address a more global view of the world and what would the events from 2016 hold for the future of Latin America in 2017.
For that reason, the theme and name of the conference 2017 will be Enacting Change. In, and prior to 2016, several major changes happened, that impacted the world and the Latin American region. There was a change of hands in politics in several Latin American countries like, Brazil with President Temer and Argentina with President Macri. The wave of more left-wing presidents seems to have subdued. Meanwhile, Donald Trump was elected in a surprising presidential run and Europe saw the UK leave the European Union. In 2017, France and Germany will hold presidential elections with popular anti-establishment candidates. Not only were major changes seen in politics but the world economy was impacted by low oil prices and slower growth in key emerging markets. These events will have profound changes to the policies that businesses, governments and regulators will set forth in 2017. It is under this spectrum of drastic change that LABC sees the focus of the its 2017 Conference. The underlying goal is to allow CEOs, politicians and scholars to share their thoughts on how to manage change and what can be expected in the years to come for the region and the world, in an environment surrounded by constant change
